One of the best things about being a children’s writer is meeting readers!

I offer paid school visits for P3-P5 (Scotland), KS2 years 3-5 (England & Wales).

My visit…

I offer a TALK for groups of any size. I begin by explaining how I became a children’s writer and we discuss WHAT AN AUTHOR DOES ALL DAY, delving into the contents of my AUTHOR TOOL BAG! After a short READING from my book, we explore how to FIND THE FUNNY all around us and why I think writing funny books can help to change the world. There is also an INTERACTIVE ACTIVITY – with added monsters! Time permitting, there will be a Q&A. The talk is between 45-60 minutes.

Book sales and signings can also be arranged.

If there are particular parts of the curriculum that you would like my visit to focus on to link in with your class activities (history, geography, poetry etc) then please just ask.

My fees are in line with the Scottish Book Trust rate for an author school visit which is £175 plus expenses. A longer visit to your school could also be arranged, perhaps to include a classroom-based WRITING WORKSHOP. Please contact me to discuss pricing.

I am happy to travel throughout the UK. My fee remains the same outside of Scotland! (Although unfortunately, travel expenses remain variable!)

Please note: schools in Devon, Buckinghamshire, Sheffield/Derbyshire and London – I am often visiting friends and family in these areas and would only need to charge for travel expenses from those bases!

To book me for a visit to your school, please contact my publicist, Namishka Doshi at Hachette Children’s Books. Alternatively, email me at

For Scottish Schools: I am on the Scottish Book Trust Live Literature database; if you have access to their funding, please book me via their website:

What they’re saying about me!

Justin really engaged the pupils. There were lots of laughs and he really sparked their imagination to read.’ Teacher, Lawhead PS, St Andrews.

What a super opportunity for the children to meet such an engaging author. Fostering a love of books early in a child’s life is such an important thing and Justin really hit the mark today.’ Teacher, Lawhead PS, St Andrews.

It was fun and amazing, he’s really inspired me to be a writer and to make books at home.‘ Pupil, Lundin Mill PS, Fife.

I enjoyed the visit because Justin was nice and told us things about writing that I didn’t know. The story was really good.’ Pupil, Lundin mill PS, Fife.

And here’s a fabulous book review from a pupil at St George’s School, Edinburgh:
